Norman Wigg

Illustrator & Photographer

I am a retired architect / planner, whose speciality was with historic buildings. In a career spanning 40 years, I have worked in local government, the private sector and for several years ran my own practice.
During my career I used model making (in the early years with wood and cardboard, in latter years with digital), photography, and illustrations using mainly pen / ink and water colour crayons as medium.

My work was carried out for my (at the time) employers and to illustrate my own work and sometimes that of other architects.

I contributed to public exhibitions, and produced publicity material for developers and builders.

I retired from active architectural practice about two years ago, but recently undertook two commissions for clients requiring illustrative work, using Sketchup.
From initial reactions to this work, I believe that there is potential for work for builders, developers, estate agents and individuals. It is my intention to create my own web site shortly.

I was previously a member of SAI and have rejoined specialising in the fields of photography and illustrations including digital modelling.

I am competent in the use of Sketchup and Photoshop. In the field of photography I have undertaken “record photos” of projects during the building period, as well as publicity photographs of finished projects. During a four year period from about 2001, I travelled widely through the UK, as a volunteer photographer (i.e. paid expenses only) for the “Images of England” project funded by English Heritage, with the aim of getting a single photograph of all listed buildings / artefacts in the UK. I contributed nearly 2,000 images to this project, which I understand is now the largest free access photographic library in the world.

Having re-joined the SAI, I will be interested in seeing (and learning from) the work of members, and, possibly giving and receiving advice from / to other members.
