I am a Chartered Landscape Architect with over 35 years experience mainly working in some large multi disciplinary architectural practices (BDP, SOM, Gensler) on a variety of projects; which were often complex and aspirational. My involvement (as well as landscape architecture) was to create evocative and characterful illustrations of what a project could be like: giving little away in terms of architectural style or engineering; but rather providing a suggestion of the type of place that was to be envisioned. This involved buildings and landscape drawings with slight amounts of detail: a sort of ‘less-is-more’ approach; in addition to more detailed information of the landscape both proposed and existing. I often do work freehand and rendered with pen, markers and pencil. Sometimes this based on 3D models or CAD work supplied by architects; and because of my working life I am able to converse with architects and planners in a way that does not take too much time or too many iterations. In 2014 I went freelance and am retained by a number of practices to do illustrative work which is used for public exhibition or for presentations with clients and investors.
